VIRTUAL: New England’s First Serial Killer (The Northwoods Murderer)

September 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This program will be held online. Register in advance to receive Zoom link the day before the program. If you would like to watch the live stream at the library, you will be able to indicate that after you have entered your name.

In 1872, 14-year-old Georgianna Lovering vanished from her Northwood, New Hampshire, home. A massive search uncovered signs of a struggle, and her eccentric uncle, Franklin Evans, soon became the prime suspect. After confessing to her murder, he led police to her mutilated body and confessed to several other murders in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts, including the infamous Bussey Woods Murders. Evans was convicted and sentenced to death. This presentation will examine his life as New England’s first serial killer using period photographs, maps, and newspaper sources.

This program is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Moultonborough Library.
